Champion Caregiver Training was born out of a strong partnership between Hope For The Heart and NickV Ministries.  Hope For The Heart is a worldwide counseling and caregiving ministry that offers Biblical hope and practical help in more than 60 countries and 36 languages.

Their expertise, Nick Vujicic’s personal experience and obedience to God’s mandate to minister to the broken is the foundation for the training. Combining Hope For The Heart’s counseling expertise and NickV Ministries’ Champions for the Brokenhearted initiative, the goal is to provide counseling training for lay leaders and individuals in the Body of Christ.

Addressing Mental Health Needs:

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for mental health support has grown significantly. Key statistics include:

  • Prevalence: About 20% of adults experience mental illness each year. Source: National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
  • Impact of COVID-19: Nearly 40% of adults reported symptoms of anxiety or depression during the pandemic. Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Suicide Rates: The suicide rate has increased by 33% over the past two decades, with over 47,000 deaths annually in the U.S. Source: National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
  • Youth Mental Health: Approximately 1 in 6 youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Access to Care: Nearly 60% of adults with a mental illness did not receive mental health services in the past year. Source: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

The training seeks to fill the need of the increasing demand of churches and professional counselors who are stretched and unable to meet the demand for counseling. The vision is to address these issues and bring the tools needed for participants to give practical support and godly counsel to the brokenhearted.

Caregiver Training Overview

Caregiver Training will provide a better understanding of the value of lay leaders as they offer care and support through the local church.  Through the following ways, this training will also result in greater competence in serving the brokenhearted without the need for academic training or professional licensure.

  • Equip those who are called to come alongside the brokenhearted and provide help
  • Encourage those who are in need of compassion, care, and counsel
  • Empower people of faith as competent “first responders” in making a difference

Training is online and self-paced and consists of a foundational Core module and 12 optional Specializations in demographics of brokenness such as the abused, trafficked, disabled, veteran, etc.

Who Can Be A Caregiver?

Anyone who has a heart to come alongside the brokenhearted and to disciple others can take the training. This includes lay and ministry leaders, church staff and volunteers, Christian life coaches or counselors, pastors, chaplains, small group leaders and believers in general.

Currently licensed counselors who have had the opportunity to take the training have found it very insightful, refreshing and useful.

Anyone desiring to integrate and apply God’s Word to life will find Caregiver Training an useful tool. Those working through difficult life issues will benefit from going through the materials as they find personal healing. The healing they experience can then be used to help others.
