As we navigate the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s important to recognize that this time of year isn’t joyous for everyone. Whether it’s the pang of loss or the burden of financial strain, the holidays can magnify feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and being forgotten. At Life Without Limbs, we conclude the year with thanksgiving, reflection, and consideration for those less fortunate.
Nick’s Interview with Susie Jennings
This December, Champions for the Brokenhearted focuses on the poor. In a heartfelt interview, Nick sits down with our longtime friend, Susie Jennings. Stepping out in faith, Susie answered God’s call, resigning from her supervisory position at Baylor University Medical Center Dallas in January 2011 to focus full time on serving the poor. From the streets of Dallas, her journey led to the creation of a world-renowned ministry, Operation Care International.
The stark reality is that the poverty rate in the U.S. is approximately 11.6%, translating to 37.9 million people living in poverty, with half a million facing homelessness. In response, Susie Jennings, now the founder and president of Operation Care International, became a beacon of hope. Click here to watch the full interview and hear Susie’s story of transformation.
Birthday Party for Jesus
On the evening of December 16, 2023, at the Dallas Convention Center, OCI will have an Evangelistic Celebration called OneDay Movement, where Nick will be speaking on the theme “Happy Birthday Jesus.” Other evangelists include Nicky Cruz and Dr. Tony Evans, and the goal of this major event is to proclaim Jesus to more than one million people via a historic, digital livestream, which has been rereleased as a special Christmas message just for you!
Hope for the Poor
As we consider the challenges faced by the poor, we also draw strength from Romans 8:28, trusting that God works all things together for good. This biblical promise isn’t one of material or earthly gain—it is, instead, a reminder of the ultimate, eternal victory that God is weaving together, a hope that outlasts and outshines even our darkest hours. Through Jesus Christ, we find peace, joy, and eternal hope to carry us through any season. Our Hope for the Poor brochure encapsulates this life-transforming truth, and we’d love for you to get a copy and perhaps share with someone who needs hope this December.
Until Next Time
As God’s word reminds us in Isaiah 57:15, “I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.” This December, as we extend a helping hand to those in need, we embody the love and compassion that define this season of giving and remind the world of the everlasting, never failing love of Jesus Christ.
