The Power of Unity in Toluca, Mexico

Unity within the body of Christ is a powerful force that enables believers to achieve extraordinary outcomes. The Bible emphasizes the importance of working together, illustrating how collective effort can yield greater results than individual endeavors.

The Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:12-27 describes the church as one body with many parts, each contributing uniquely to the whole. Verses 12-14 state, “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.” This metaphor reinforces the idea that every member of the church is vital, and unity in diversity strengthens the entire body.

One of the most powerful examples of unity within the body of Christ occurred this past March in Toluca, Mexico. Jesus and Nagham Henkel, Christian business owners in Toluca, played a pivotal role in this remarkable evangelism event. Jesus is a christian business owner and runs a commercial development business, one of his hotels is the Garden Inn Hilton in Toluca. Since COVID-19, once a month he and his wife have felt led to bring pastors from various churches and denominations to their hotel, offering them breakfast and inviting speakers to minister and support them. They have continued this practice, fostering unity among the churches.

When the Lord spoke to Jesus and Nagham about inviting Nick Vujicic to speak at a stadium outreach for the city of Toluca, the response was immediate and overwhelming. Due to their longstanding service to the churches, local business networks, and the city, support flowed in readily. The Governor of Toluca granted them the use of the baseball stadium for free, and the stage and production were provided. Over 74 churches with more than 700 volunteers united to make the event a reality.

The Power of Prayer

Through the power of prayer and the unified efforts of the body of Christ, the event’s reach extended far beyond expectations. The Catholic Church, along with various other groups, took to the streets and businesses to invite people. Within three weeks of opening registration, nearly 30,000 people had registered for a stadium that could only hold 17,000.

On the day of the event, volunteers arrived at 7 a.m., and attendees lined up over four hours early, all wearing team shirts that symbolized their unity. That night, Nick Vujicic preached the gospel with grace, boldness, and the fullness of the Holy Spirit. When he made the altar call, over 12,000 people gave their lives to Jesus as Lord and Savior.

They had anticipated a large number of new believers and brought 5,700 New Testaments, but this was not enough. The impact was profound, demonstrating the power of the church serving each other, coming together, and uniting as the family of God.

Until Next Time

This couple and the event in Toluca exemplifies the transformative power of unity within the body of Christ. When believers work together, guided by prayer and the Holy Spirit, they can achieve far more than they could alone. This is the essence of being the church—serving together, supporting one another, and reaching out to the world with the love of Christ.

Thank you for praying for Nick and the team as they continue through Latin America preaching the gospel and fulfilling the Great Commission.
